We will be taking an extended year of medical school to pursue medical missions in three nations: Nepal, India, and Bolivia.
Our desire is to see and partner with a variety of medical missionaries overseas. In the future, we are strongly considering doing medical mission work abroad. To further explore this long-term vision, we felt led to take the avenue of experiencing medical missions prior to residency. In medical school, we wanted to see what the needs were and see how we could best use medicine overseas in order to guide what course of further training we would need. Unfortunately, we were not able to find a program that would help us meet our specific goals and time frame. Therefore, we decided to contact hospitals and medical missionaries on our own and through the contacts we are able to create a tailored itinerary to witness the scope of medical missions work.
We are under the banner of Challenge Ministries International. The organization will provide prayerful support, guidance and administrative resources as we prepare for our trip. They also will be housing any financial aid received from individuals. We plan to be sent through our local church in Minneapolis (Hope Community Church).
